The mission of In Lak’ech Dance Academy is to co-create a community of queer and trans dancers to celebrate our resilience, nurture our collective strength and heal from oppression. Through visibility and artistic expression In Lak’ech Dance Academy are redefining the Latin dance community as a safe and affirming space for all gender identities and sexualities.
Angélica Medina
Co-founder | Bachata & Salsa Director
Angelica is a queer chicanx from Los Angeles, CA. In 2012, she moved to San Francisco to pursue her graduate studies in Drama Therapy and began to train with the prestigious salsa dance Company, Salsamania. During her time with Salsamania, Angelica placed 2nd in 2014 and 3rd in 2015 under the Amateur Salsa Team division at the World Latin Dance Cup. In 2015, Angelica began her Bachata training with Inessence Dance Company. Angelica continues to perform in various dance festivals/congresses in San Francisco, Reno, L.A. New York, D.C., Paris, Mexico, India, and Miami.
Jahaira Fajardo
Co-founder | Bachata Director
Jahaira was born to Dominican parents in Washington Heights New York City. Bachata, Bolero, Merengue, and Salsa were a constant musical element in her youth. In 2000 she moved to San Francisco CA to pursuit graduate studies and in 2013 Jahaira joined the prominent and highly regarded Inessence Dance Company. Under the direction of Bryon Stroud and Sammantha Arias, Jahaira learned how to dance Bachata in the Leader role. Soon after she began to perform at local events and festivals.
DJ Wonway Posibul
Wonway Posibul is a GRAMMY nominated songwriter and emcee, DJ, radio host, and actor. Behind the turntables, Wonway has established himself as one of the most sought after DJ’s in the Bay Area. His diverse playlists can range from HipHop, Funk, Salsa, House, Samba, Jazz, Dancehall, and Future Soul all in the same set. His “Makossa Classics” series and many of his other mixes have been featured on numerous influential websites such as Okayplayer, Remezcla, The Couch Sessions, and URB Magazine. Most recently, Wonway was recognized for his work with Alphabet Rockers being nominated for “Best Children’s Album” at 2018’s 60th Annual GRAMMY awards.
