MACLA Presents an Exclusive First Reading of “Ask A Mexican,” Friday, September 22, 2017
7pm Reception (Doors Open)
7:30pm Opening Remarks by Anthony J Garcia with Gustavo Arellano and Staged Reading
Experience an exclusive first reading of a new play in development by playwright Anthony J. Garcia in collaboration with Ask a Mexican award-winning author Gustavo Arellano on Fri, Sep 22, 2017!
Playwright Anthony Garcia adapts Gustavo Arrelano’s political column Ask A Mexican to the stage. The production will be developed through a series of readings in San José, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Denver and Pueblo, Colorado. Ask a Mexican is a smart satirical response to stereotypical perceptions of Mexicans specifically and Latinos in general with music by Daniel Valdez of the seminal Chicano/Latino theater family.
Arellano’s column has been nationally syndicated and has enjoyed tremendous response and the next logical step would be the stage. Garcia intends to broaden the conversation to include audience response and participation.
