About the Exhibition

This past summer, a group of Latino youth ages 12-17 completed a ten-week intensive photography workshop led by local artists Nora Raggio and Alejandro Oliva. Not only did they learn the basics of digital photography, the workshop focused on the youth finding their voice, telling their stories and developing their artistic sensibility. What emerged from the workshop are highly profound and compelling images that speak of the youth’s everyday experiences and interests. Each artist developed a defined body of work centered on their personal interests, from family portraits to lowrider cars to constructed narratives to the urban landscapes. Come and see the amazing work that these eight young artists have created to share with the larger community. Their artistic vision and sensitivity is on par with many seasoned artists and MACLA is proud to support their first exhibition.

FotoFolio is made possible, in part by a grant from the California Council for the Humanities as part of the Council's statewide California Stories Initiative. The Council is an independent non-profit organization and a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This project is supported inpart by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
This project has been possible in part by a grant from the SanDisk Corporation Funds at Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
